History of the Chandos Singers
The choir was originally formed in 1984 as the Georgian Festival Chorus and frequently performed in Bath.
Eight years later it was relaunched as the Chandos Singers with a new policy of performing short works, usually from the Baroque period. Since 1997, the choir has performed a more varied repertoire. In March 2000, Malcolm Hill took over as music director.
A chorus of about 20 singers, Chandos is currently concentrating on works, both sacred and secular, which by the time of the performance have not become over-performed by other choral groups. Where possible, the composer's first version is used.
